4 Stunning Places to Visit in Sierra Nevada

Okay, can we just talk about how insanely gorgeous California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains are?! The first time I went to Lake Tahoe, I swear my jaw was on the floor. The sparkling water, the fresh mountain air, the way the trees hugged the shoreline. It all felt like something straight out of a postcard…and I love collecting postcards. hahaha! It reminded me so much of home. From that moment on, I knew I needed more Sierra Nevada adventures in my life.

After that one road trip, I was hooked. I kept thinking, “Why didn’t I come here sooner?” It’s so DREAMY! And the best part? If you’re driving from Las Vegas like me, it’s really not that far. Which basically means more spontaneous road trips are definitely happening.

Are you craving a little mountain magic? Then you’ve come to the right place. I’m spilling 4 breathtaking places in the Sierra Nevada Mountains that you have to add to your bucket list. Be prepared to fall in love with these views in 3,2,1!

1. Convict Lake

Convict Lake is among the most picturesque places in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. It quickly became one of my favorite discoveries. Tucked away near Mammoth Lakes, this hidden gem feels like pure magic the moment you see it. I actually first came across Convict Lake on Instagram. This one photo popped up on my feed…the turquoise water with those dramatic mountains behind it and I instantly hit save. I just knew one day we’d drive up there and stay for a few days.

What better excuse than my birthday? We finally made the trip in March, and it was everything I imagined and more. The lake was so peaceful, the air crisp, and my eyes couldn’t pull away from the snow tucked into the cracks of the mountains. The farther we hiked along the lake, the deeper the snow became. I felt like I had walked straight into a snowy fairytale.

Later, when I came back and showed my sister the photos, she immediately told me Convict Lake just moved to the top of her travel plans. And get this, she was actually there just a day ago! I received a few beautiful photos from her. It felt so special knowing this spot that captured my heart is now giving her the same kind of memories.

2. Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe deserves an entire post of its own because there’s so much to see, do, and fall in love with. From stunning hikes to hidden beaches, every corner feels like a new adventure waiting to happen. One of the coolest parts about Lake Tahoe is that it straddles two states. You can literally stand on the California border and just one step later, you’re in Nevada. How cool is that?

If you haven’t been to Emerald Bay State Park, make sure that changes soon. It’s one of those places, I think everyone should see at least once in their lifetime. The views are unreal!

So far, I’ve been to Lake Tahoe twice, and every time I leave, I can’t wait to go back. My whole family loves it there! We appreciate the stillness, fresh mountain air and the countless adventures available no matter the season.

One of my favorite memories was waking up one April morning to find snow piled way above our knees. The joy was unlike anything I’d felt…after years of Vegas Christmases, this snowy spring day felt extra special.

3. Lake Sabrina

Lake Sabrina in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, California, with crystal-clear turquoise water, rugged granite cliffs, pine forests, and patches of snow — a stunning alpine hiking and fishing destination.

Before setting out into the mountains to discover Lake Sabrina, explore the adorable town of Bishop, California. Be sure to visit Erick Schat’s Bakery first. Their homemade breads, pastries, and treats are seriously to die for. This European-style bakery is so popular for a reason. We went two days in a row, and both times the place was packed. (Pro tip: grab their famous sheepherder bread, you won’t regret it!).

Also, Bishop itself is such a fun stop. Known as the “Mule Capital of the World,” it’s surrounded by endless outdoor adventures. Plus, it has that small-town charm that I fell in love with right away.

Let me tell you, Lake Sabrina is truly breathtaking. The sparkling turquoise water surrounded by rugged Sierra Nevada peaks look like a flawless painting. We decided to hike, and while it was one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done, it was also pretty steep at times. And here’s the funny part…yep, I hiked part of it in a dress. A passerby even joked that he’d never seen someone hike in a dress before. What can I say? I did it for the pictures…hahaha!

4. Mono Lake

One of the coolest surprises I’ve ever had on a road trip through the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains was stumbling across Mono Lake. It’s located near the little town of Lee Vining, just east of Yosemite National Park. I was blown away the second I saw it!!! We were heading to Reno when the lake came into view, and I literally said, “Okay, we HAVE to stop.” I mean, just look at these photos!

Mono Lake is known for these super unique tufa towers (they look like wild rock formations rising straight out of the water). Standing there, with the mountains towering behind them, felt almost surreal. The whole place has this peaceful vibe that just makes you want to stay forever.

We didn’t have much time to explore that day, but I knew right then that we’ll be back. Also, since we haven’t made it to Yosemite National Park yet, I already know our future Yosemite road trip will include another stop at Mono Lake.

I can’t get over how MAGICAL the Sierra Nevada Mountains are. I can’t help but wish I lived somewhere like that...surrounded by nature. From Lake Tahoe to Convict Lake, each place had its own kind of beauty. Have you explored the Sierra Nevada yet? Which spots are your favorites?
